 Post subject: demo version question
PostPosted: Sun Feb 24, 2008 10:01 pm
I have a need to convert files similar to the below. However the demo version hangs up and ceases responding. Is this conversion outside its abilities?

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
<title>VE Document</title>
</head>
<body>

<table border="0" summary="table used to control layout">
<tbody>
<tr>

<!-- * COLUMN 1 * -->
<td width="10" valign="top" align="left">
<table width="10" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0" summary="table used for menu contents">

<td width="10"><!-- Left side menu contents: -->
<br /></td><!-- End of left side menu contents -->
<td><p><br /></p></td></tr>

<!-- End of * COLUMN 1* -->

<!-- ** COLUMN 2 ** -->

Hello,
I just tried converting your sample code with the trial version. The conversion took less than 1 second and completed successfully.

So I would like to ask a couple of questions in order to try to pinpoint the issue:

Which version of Table2CSS did you try? Was it the latest 2.2.0.

Did you use the default settings when running conversion? In my case I tried both the default settings and slightly modified settings (output formatting enabled and link type set to Relative). In neither case the program hang.

Also if your actual code differs from the sample code can you please send the actual code to support@table2css.com ?

Also please note that the program needs to complete the download of the webpage before the actual conversion takes place. So if there was some network problem during the download the program may look like it has hung but it is actually trying to download the web page.

I apparently did not wait long enough for the conversion to finish. All is well now.

Such delays happen often when there is a network problem while downloading the page, or when the page references some banner or just text ad. Such ads are usually located on busy ad servers and sometimes it takes a long time to download them.

I guess there should be some notice from the program telling what is it actually doing - "Downloading the page", "Converting the page", etc.
